Mobile Medical Unit (MMU)

  • Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) for Tea Garden and Non Tea Garden Area

    All districts in Assam are equipped and functional with Mobile Medical Units being administered by M/S Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust. The operation of MMU services are started from 4th April 2017 with one MMU in Kamrup Rural district, however the ceremonial launch was done on 20th June 2017.

    MMU at a glance:

    The MMU team is led by a Medical Officer and supported by two ANMs, One Pharmacist, One Lab Technician and an Ophthalmic Support Associate.

    There are two (2) vehicles in each MMU team. One is used for transportation of the medical team and the other one is equipped with all medical equipments to support more than 40 lab test and the package of comprehensive Primary Healthcare Services with the following services-

    • Primary health services.
    • Maternal Health Services
    • Child Health Services
    • Family Planning Services
    • Adolescent Health Services
    • Communicable disease Services
    • NCD services
    • Nutritional services
    • BCC services
    • Diagnostic Services
    • Higher facility referral for management of complicated cases needing further treatment
    • Participating in the various activities/campaigns as per State health calendar

    • Number of operational MMU in Tea Gardens (TG) -8
    • Number of operational MMU in Non Tea Garden (NTG) areas-50

    MMU in Tea Gardens (TG): Initially 80 numbers of MMUs were introduced to cover 320 tea gardens of Assam to provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care Service to the people of Tea garden area which has now increased to 445 tea gardens with in a span of three years since its inception.

    Non Tea Garden (NTG) MMU: 50 numbers of NTG MMU are providing comprehensive primary health care services in the different villages and interior areas of non tea garden districts.

    Besides providing OPD and aforesaid services, Free medicine and Free Lab services are also provided at the doorstep of both Tea Garden and Non Tea Garden population. The MMU teams are also involved in executing various IEC activities in line to the NHM IEC calendar like IDCF, World Population day, World Breastfeeding Week, Anemia & TB detection drive, National Deworming Day etc.

    Currently MMU, Assam are also conducted various field level activities from door to door screening to Swab collection as regards to COVID–19 apart from the normal health camps.
