Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) is a monthly community platform under India's National Health Mission (NHM), launched in 2007, to deliver integrated preventive health, nutrition, sanitation, and early childhood development services at the village level.

Salient Features in Assam

VHSND occurs once monthly in every village at Anganwadi centers or identified sites, with Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) preparing plans based on beneficiary lists from Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs).

Sessions last at least four hours, including one hour for group counseling, with services like antenatal checkups, immunizations, growth monitoring, breastfeeding advice, hygiene promotion, and disease counseling delivered by ANMs, Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs), ASHAs, AWWs, and local representatives.

 Advance notifications via ASHA/AWW outreach, public displays of schedules and materials at centers, and ensured availability of drugs/supplies support effective execution, emphasizing intersectoral coordination among health, ICDS, Panchayati Raj, and rural development departments.
