Adarani Dropback Service under JSSK Scheme

  • “Adarani” is a drop back project (under JSSK scheme) which ensures safe conveyance of mother and her child after delivery from hospital to back home. This project was launched on 30th January’2012 by then Union Health Minister in Presence of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Health Minister, Assam and initially started off with three districts namely Kamrup, Morigaon and Goalpara and Gradually within a span of 1 year the project covered all districts of Assam with 235 vehicles. The Adarani vehicles are manned by a driver and operations of these vehicles are managed by GVK EMRI.

This project was initiated with an aim to increase institutional delivery which was very low before inception of Adarani project due to lack of reverse transportation and high out of pocket expenditure. At the same time, this project also has positive implications on MMR & IMR as because in the absence of a safe and dedicated reverse transportation service from hospital to home, beneficiaries had to use public transportation which at times led to various complications for mother and neonate.

The salient features of the project are: -

    • Adarani is a free service and available for 365 days during daytime.
    • Adarani service is availed only after getting proper discharge documents from Government hospital authority.
    • Adarani vehicle carries mother & neonate along with one attendant.

To avail Adarani service a beneficiary can contact the Adarani help desk located in the hospitals or can also call 108 to avail the service.
